Missoula Montana

The Garden City

The enchanting city of Missoula was founded in 1860. At that time it was known as the Hellgate Trading Post in what was then the Washington Territory. Located along the banks of the Clark Fork River where five mountain ranges come together, Missoula is now known as both the ‘Garden City’ and the ‘Hub of the Five Valleys.’ It has a population nearing 70,000 residents with a county population of over 110,000. As the home of University of Montana, this large population is also diverse, giving Missoula an atmosphere unique in contrast to other cities in Montana.

Due to its population size and the University, Missoula is hub for education, commerce and the arts and many residents from smaller towns in the area travel to Missoula to take in a football or baseball game, see a music concert from a national act, catch a world class play at one of its many theaters and stroll through the art galleries on First Friday – a monthly showcase that highlights local artists. Missoula also has two of the largest medical facilities in Western Montana, which employs many people.
